Why do you need a Dream Vision Board for your interior design?

  • It will help to focus and inspire you!
  • You’ll develop a sense of harmony and creative flow.
  • You’ll be able to communicate your vision to your friends & family.

Tips

Be sure your piece of card gives you ample room in which to be creative, whimsical, and self-expressive!

Make sure you are in the right frame of mind and are feeling alive and energised. I suggest you go out into an awe-inspiring natural environment that resonates with you and breathe in the exquisite beauty in all it’s glory.

If you are unable to do that then simply make some time to meditate or exercise to expand your breathing to increase oxygen flow and energy.

“Quality breathing plus a happy outlook can make life extremely exciting! By providing our body with more oxygen we are giving it the greatest healing tool on the planet.” Kawena Gordon

 Question

Is your vision one of clarity! Take a moment now to reflect if you are making your decisions with passion and purpose.......

Preparing to create your Vision Board

Before you can begin to put together your Vision Tools, you’ll need to gather various supplies so that you have them on hand when inspiration takes hold! After all, the last thing you want to do is disrupt the flow of passion and intuition in a mad search for the scissors, right?

Many of these items you’ll be able to find around your home, borrow from a friend, or buy from a local office supply store. Here’s an itemised list of suggested tools to assist in your organising efforts:

Glue stick

Big piece of card in your favourite colour

Silver pen

Scissors

Next, buy or find home & living design magazines that attract your attention. I also find that good quality design books are full of inspiration and are also fabulous for coffee table decoration. Other sources for ideas are the home design sections of your local newspapers, the internet and the library, where you can find fantastic inspiration. In the resources page of this book we have some of our favourite magazines and books listed. There is also a list on our website under the resources section.

Preparation through Visualisation

As you move through this reawakening process take time to prepare yourself spiritually and mentally. It is a vital key to set the intent for your visualisation process before embarking on this incredible visualisation journey is essential if you really want to channel the positive energy from within yourself. You might be leading a busy and intense lifestyle, but if you have a clear goal, taking the time to prepare for your goal is all-important.

And if you don’t have time – make time.

“You are not a human having or a human doing – you are a human being. Who you are is vital to what you do and what you will have.Brad Sugars

You will reap the rewards in the upcoming weeks and months as your goal becomes a reality. By spending a little time alone, mentally and spiritually quieting yourself so that you can zero-in on what’s most important to you, you’ll have a sharper focus as you pull all of the tools and ideas together.

“Within the seed of your desire is everything necessary for it to blossom to fulfillment. The Law of Attraction is the engine that does the work. Your work is just to give it a fertile growing place in order to expand.” Abraham

Now find a quiet place where you can be alone and undisturbed for 30 minutes to an hour. You may also want to quietly play soothing, tranquil music to calm your body and mind.

Points to Remember

Remember as you progress through the steps, that the first thing that comes to your mind is usually the correct answer. Be honest with yourself and have trust in the process. You will know if it is the right answer for you; it will be that gut feeling I described earlier. You may experience things like this:

You feel warm and fuzzy

You feel like singing

Your energy is upbeat

You feel like dancing around the room!

The power of the mind and projection of thought is more immense than you can ever imagine. Forming an image in your mind and recording it on paper gives it the breath of existence into the future.

This is a fun activity and really gets you moving on your path!

Now, let’s begin.

Open your Dream Sanctuary Journal and your visualisation page and begin by asking yourself the following question:

What is it you really want? Seriously, what do you want?

Remember to be clear and precise in identifying your wants and desires.

Refer back to key elements for guidance - is it financial, geographical or social?

Calm your body by taking long breaths into the depth of your belly until you feel relaxed and your mind is calm. When you’re ready, open your eyes and ask yourself the questions:

Am I being affected by negative or positive forces?

What major elements are influencing my choices?

Now visualise yourself 2 years from now.

Where are you?

How did you get there?

What is around you?

Are you on a rural property, in the city or near the ocean?

What does the lay of the land look like? Is there a garden? Are there children or pets running around?

Can you feel the sun on your face and a gentle breeze or is it cold and you are all snuggled up.

Now expand your vision to take in the rest of the house.

Is it single story or double story?

What do the windows, walls and roof look like?

Now visualise the front door.

What does it look like?

Is it timber or glass?

Now, I want you to walk towards the front door and open it up. Take a look inside, what do you see? Continue this process as you move through every room of your Dream Sanctuary. Notice where there are flowers, candles, artwork.

How do you feel in these rooms?

What can you smell as you move through the rooms?

Is there music playing or people laughing?

When you have done a complete tour of your Dream Sanctuary, allow your whole being to soak up all you see and feel. Thank your imagination for showing you these images and in your mind, go back out through the front door. Now feel your conscious mind coming back into your body.

The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen ~ Frank Lloyd Wright

Now spend the next 20 minutes or so writing down what you saw. If you are graphically minded, you can draw pictures to remind yourself of the image.

Putting your Vision Board and Vision Files together

Now that you’ve had a chance to get a vision to create your very own dream sanctuary in your mind, it’s time to put it down on paper! Writing things down makes them more real, more tangible, and expressing them in images and three dimensional ideas makes them even more alive and real still.

This should be a fun, exciting process, so let yourself relax, let go of any preconceived expectations, and just enjoy bringing your vision to life.

Select images: Begin by scouring through as many magazines and books as you can find. As you do so, put a POST IT note on anything that catches your eye. Write on the POST IT exactly what it is that attracts you to the picture.

Assemble the images: Once you feel like you have gathered enough information, the next step is to put your visualisation reflections onto your Vision Board!

During this process, you may find that roadblocks pop up; whether they’re kids asking for attention, uncertainty of your choices, or fear that you’re going to do something wrong. To help to dismantle those roadblocks, here are some tips:

It is great to have one Vision Board for your life goals and another one specifically for your Dream Sanctuary so that you keep the two distinct and separate. Although they relate to one another in many ways, combining them can muddle your overall Dream Sanctuary vision.

If you do not want to pull the magazine apart, colour photocopies are a fantastic option. This is also the best way to capture the image if you have a beautiful or borrowed design book.

Enjoy creating.........
